EDITORIAL INTIMATE PORTRAITS: DUBAI
HAPPY 2017 everyone!!!
For our first blog this year we are taking you to a shoot we did over the summer when we have a little quite time for ourselves at the studio. It's this time of the year that really get us excited because we have time to create projects for ourselves that allows us to challenge new photography styles and art identities that are otherwise to ours. It is that time of the year where we open collaborative partnerships and meet fellow industry artists to work on something new!
For this shoot, we partenered up with The Louise Monique - hair and make up artist and Emma our model. Louise aproached us for a collaborative shoot which came on a perfect time as I was looking to create a shoot that felt organic and has strong editorial feel and edits. I wanted to create images that plays with angle and cropping, light and shadows and has an overall darker aesthetic. I also wanted to shoot that shows individuality, one that accepts and see beauty to what otherwise others might see as flaw. Monique created beautiful freckles on Emma and let Emma's hair as naturally curly as it is and make-up is kept to a very minimal. The overall direction is a chill weekend afternoon.
I was very happy with the shoot until it is time to do the editing.
I got onto on a massive 'creative funk' as I kept coming back to the edit workflow that I know - the clean, airy and bright look that I love and has gotten used to.
I edited a few and could not for the life of me decide on the tone and mood I wanted to achieve when I first conceptualise the shoot. I went ahead and shared a few images with my usual style and let it sink for a while. I had to look away and forget it for a bit.
But here's what - I LOVE NEW YEAR and the positivity it brings. I was ready to look at this shoot again and I was more excited to work on it than before. And then I finally found the tone that felt right for the images we shot. It wasn't too diferent and then it hit me - what kept me confused was I wanted to do something really opposite to my style that I forget to stay true to my identity to keep it simple and clean.
So here it is - with a fresh new eyes our FRECKLES x MUSTARD summer shoot.
